NEVER been able to battle ANYONE, basic brawl or team battle ............
Thank God I didn't buy BRAWL to play online.
I can watch as spectator mode with no problem at all but I'm always alone while other spots are "Seeking" and never been able to connect with other players.

Also, I did the "battle anyone" thing twice. The first time I DCed after like one match, the second time I played around 10 fights with no problems. I haven't tried it again, I mostly play vs friends...
Also: erizo has brawl? :0

Spoiler: because ichi is rightI know it's not a bash nintendo thread, but lets be honest, the online system kinda blows. Maybe it's not very noticeable or as much of a hassle to people who don't do much of the online gaming (or haven't experienced xbox live
A huge friend code PER-GAME? I'd say that's inexcusable. I have to annoy groups of people over and over for massive number codes? It doesn't even have a proper friend's list. Also, those other voice chat options sound nice and cute when it's, say, you and one other person, but see how nicely that works when you play with multiple people--primarily strangers. Even if it didn't need voice chat, it basically has NO COMMUNICATION AT ALL save for some lame pre-set phases.
Nintendo just seems afraid to connect people to the scary world that is online gaming with strangers. True it's littered with foul-mouthed kids, but somewhere deep deep (deeeeep) down, there are people worth meeting and playing. It's basically the most bare-bones online service possible, pretty much only useful for playing against friends you can plan sessions with, friends you can trade long codes with, and apparently, friends you can call and talk to. It's no secret that Nintendo is more than just a little behind on this, but it's also no secret they don't give a shit. They still don't take online play seriously, and it hasn't hurt their sales one bit. I'm pretty sure they'll work on it in the next few consoles though, as it's something a lot of people take seriously.
That said though, if you don't have a wii/brawl, there's no point coming in here bashing Nintendo online play...just makes you look like a troll...

Friendcodes are limiting, but safe. And as someone who's never had an xbox or live.. i can honestly say I don't find it that big a deal.
(disclaimer: pulled the numbers out of thin air there. It's a guesstimation.)

Seeing as Nintendo really does not give a rats ass about it's online play is easily proven by our own unruled. He modded his wii months ago, downloaded brawl (which releases in Europe in 5 days... yes, it took that fucking long) and he can play against Americans all he wants. Try that with a 360 and look at a fat banned xbox live account.
All in all Nintendo just added the online play because it was simple to set up, and that's all they did with it.
hai thar

Well, yeah, but at the same time, they seem to think online play is for the "hardcore" group. That's changing pretty rapidly, if it hasn't already done so. It seems more like a lack of effort/enthusiasm on their part, with reasons like that being a nice excuse for them to throw out. There's no reason why they can't just implement some sort of parental controls, and that doesn't change the absurdity of long-ass friend codes per-game. Why not just disable voice chat/any chat at all with strangers and allow it with friends? We already have to go through the sharing of the numbers to ensure we actually know each other, what excuse is there to do away with all communication? It practically kills the experience, and if I wasn't on my computer or phone at the same time, I'd think I was playing a computer with simulated lag unless someone informed me otherwise. It won't be too long before something like a more robust online system becomes a necessity.
Mest, you troll! >You...uh...>=[!!
