I'm not sure if anyone will know but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I got this external hard drive a few months ago, tha Maxtor 3200

at times either my laptop or my computor wouldn't recognized it & I managed to take care of that. Well this past Friday, my laptop nor my ccomputer wouldn't recognized it at all. So I tried this method I found online. Well it worked but now I got a hugge problem. When I click on the drive, it will say "This drive isn't formatted. Would you like to format it now?" Meaning, all tha stuff I had in there (almost all of my anime, almost all of my music, almost all of my beats, websites, pictures, my designs, & videos) I can't gain access to. And if I do formatted, then all of it will be gone & very hard to get back.

So do anyone have any ideas???

I would like to know more about this "method I found online".

If the case is openable, you might try putting it inside the computer. Failing that, you can always try recovery tools.

It probably developed bad sectors, happened on my external Seagate. Nothing "chkdsk /R" couldn't fix tongue.gif

It's a DOS command for checking/repairing drives. /R unmounts the volume and attempts to repair it.

lol, Seagate bough Maxtor XD.gif

I would check what warranty the external has as mine only had a 1 year warranty, but the hard drives from Seagate come with a 5 year warranty. So buying a drive and an enclosure separately is the better way to go happy.gif

So I tried this method I found online. Well it worked but now I got a hugge problem.

Can you please elaborate on this? Your method may have toasted the partition table. If windows doesn't want to see the drive, then the built in tools probably won't work. If this is the case, you'll need a data recovery program that can piece some stuff back together.

As for hard drives, there are only a few manufacturers: Seagate, WD, Hitachi, Fujitsu and Samsung. Drives vary widely by model, so you need to research the specific one you want to buy. It's not enough to simply say one company sucks or another is great.

I would agree that it is better to buy an external box separately from the drive. Not only do you get a better warranty, but you can also get a nice enclosure. Most boxes sold with hard drives suck when compared to nice ones like the Venus DS3. That $20 enclosure you are eying will cost you more when you have to keep replacing it after parts die / break. Cheap boxes also have super loud fans or inadequate passive cooling, crap build quality, poor electronics, and no support.
