QUOTE
Imadoki! is the story about Tanpopo Yamazaki, a girl who chooses to move from Hokkaidō to Tokyo in order to begin high school in an entirely new environment. When she goes to see her new school, Meio Academy, she meets a young man who is planting a Tanpopo (dandelion) seed.

At school the next day, Tanpopo is not only amazed by the modern facilities but also that she is in the same class as the young man she met the day before: Koki Kugyo, the son of the owner of Meio. When she greets him, Koki pretends not to know her and she is shocked that he would act so differently from their previous meeting.

I liked this series, but I don't think it was as good as her more supernatural mangas.
That's the first time I ever saw the Japanese cover.
This one is just 5 books....and the last book is stuffed with two side story mangas about different people. laugh.gif

Well...the information I got for the manga is from non other than wikipedia. If you want to know about the characters then here's the Imadoki: Characters site at Wiki.. If you want to read the manga go to OneManga.

It is basically Yuu Watase's take at a school story.
The underlying theme is friendship.

Tampopo starts school at a very exclusive place where all the emphasis is placed on status. No one is sincere and no one has friends based on actually liking someone...it is more based on people's status and what being friends with someone can do for you. The school has weird rules...no real plants are allowed on campus...it is a very sterile environment.

Tampopo is a very genuine person. She likes people for who they are.
She is also poor and only got into the school as an alternate.
Koki...the young man mentioned in the first post...is the first person she meets there and she declares in the opening day ceremonies that he will be her friend.
This earns her the wrath of everyone else in the school and they start calling her Weed and being mean.

At the risk of utterly spoiling the story, I'll just sum up the rest.
The group of five friends are all interesting characters.
One is the star, Tampopo.
One is a crazy computer genious.
One is a ganguro with a gangster father.
One is a rich girl whose only aim in life is to marry well.
One is indeed Koki.
Oh and there is also romance and angst...but not a lot of it.

It's a quick pleasant read. laugh.gif
The bonus stories in the last book are two romance one-shots.
One features some of Tampopo's friends from middle school and she makes a cameo appearance.

I see, thanks anyway though. Its kinda hard for me to decide whether I should read this or not. After all, the only Manga's that I liked from Yu Watase was Absolute Boyfriend and Ayashi no Ceres. The others were...either have annoying characters or were just too 'intense' for me >_<.gif
