the best way to make the armor plates stand out is to use a fine marker, usually .2 or so, and draw along the lines.
for those lil rough edges in models a really fine sand paper should be able to get them out. (see the unpainted ez8s

i'm not sure if this is true for all kits, but i think all the master and perfect grade kits have an "internal skeleton," meaning that you can take out the white body panels of the gundams, and underneath you can see the mechanics of the gundam. kinda like popping the hood of a car. high grade kits will be hollow inside. but yeah, in terms of detail, high grade is the worst, perfect grade is the best, and master grade is between the two.

Low Grade - cheap kits with just 4 joints (shoulders and hips...
High Grade - for beginners... have basic posable joints... 1/144 scale
Master Grade - for intermediate and a standard for all collectors... 1/100 scale
Perfect Grade - Only for masters... and extremem collectors due to its extreme details and price tag... 1/60 scale
Jumbo Grade - New grade introduced a year before... larger than 1/60...
1/100 HG - Basically a HG... with a 1/100 scale...
Big Grade - 1/60 a cross between HG and MG...
Correct me if I'm wrong... XD

as for the internal skeleton in MG. its not always true. neither my zaku or GM (both MG) have internal skeletons. but still move and poses like most (sometime better) other MG. they're almost a halfway between 1/100 HG and MG.

some additions
1/144:
first grade models: introduced in 1980s. white plastic, requires tremendous amount of painting.
High grade: about the"for beginers" part i am not really satisfied. models like dendrobium orchis rquies both cement is most parts, psyco gundam requies a lot of screws and it is as big as a 1/60 scale strike gundam when built, should i eleborate more of freedom gundam + METEOR?
1/100
B-CLUB models: Extremely expensive and difficult to built. requires cement and painting. requires you to scrape/file of the excess resin in most kits. most models are from side storys and MSVs. only a fare few are from the anime itself.
one more correction is that strike freedom is only released this year, low grade/ no grade is released at around january and hg is released at feb. so in other words is that either canadiancool81 is lying or he/she happened to mistype freedom into strike freedom due to excessive exposure to strike freedom.

just bout all beginners start with the standard size 1/144 HG models. which is what yunamon prolly meant.
anyways heres more a few more
the finished alex.
paint i originally used and what i used this time round is same. some color came out different because it aged or something
the talgeese, nota beginner friendly model. requires paint (originally all white) and some experience working with the models. screwups show easily on white... doesnt pose well either (compared to other HG that is)
current "finished" models. tho im considering testing some colorschemes on the sd heavyarm
