Heya, i couldn't find a thread about VirtualDubMod... if there is one... sorry for the hassle...

Okay, I want to take images from a video file... but VirtualDubMod *shortened to VDM for now on* says that it can't take the .avi file or something. It could however play the .mpeg file extension... but the screenies i want to get are from a .avi file extension... is there some way besides converting the .avi to .mpeg so i can take multiple screenshots of a video file ???

thank you for your time laugh.gif

Can't you use the "save image sequence" option?

QUOTE (unruled;89571)
if you cant open the avi, it means you probably need to go install the "proper" xvid codec. Vdub(mod) doesnt like the FFDshow xvid codec.
(same goes for divx btw)

know where i can get the right codec then

and i have cccp installed already... and i can't get rid of nimo codec pack... so if that's causing problems :heh: damn...

actually... i missed that thread emka linked too... sorry mods for making another thread... :heh: ...i searched and all already... and failed

if you have the CCCP installed then you have ffdshow
in ffdshow there is a 'grab' option that should allow you to capture an image sequence without using virtualdubmod
but it's probably not as convenient

have a look at this thread too
maybe it will help

thanks for the help kira... but i think that thread and the thread emka posted are the same ones... no?

I started to post there just cuz it seems like oso solved the problem... but now i can't save images... *more info. in my post in that thread*

now... mod/admins... i believe it's better to just merge the two threads... but where does it really belong... playback area... or tech area... cuz playback is the problem for some people... but right now... i'm having difficulties saving images...

i think it belongs in the playback cuz it's a video player kind a thing... but it will probably get more views if it stays in the tech area :heh:

I use ImageGrabber II to get screenshots. It's a simple program to use and allows many screenshots to be taken at set intervals. Very nice.

Its not a great program if you are looking for specific screenshots. This program just takes screenshots spread out at intervals through the duration of the avi.

For example, if you set the number of shots to 10, it will take 10 shots at evenly spaced times.

Example Screenshot of Dokuro Chan 01 (This shot has no editing done to it. This program set the screens up in this layout by itself):

Once you open ImageGrabber, click on the options and change the things you want to change. I only messed with the layout options, changing the columns and stuff.

To actually take the shots, open the avi file you want with image grabber. It will then start playing, without sound.

Click the Icon that looks like a TV. A dialogue will appear that asks how many shots you want. The picture above I selected 10. It will then go through the avi taking 10 shots.

Once that is done, click on the file menu and click "save file". Click ok through the first popup (its just asking what you wanted printed on the actual picture). Then save it to where ever you want.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. I basically just played around with the program till I got what I wanted.

It is possible with CCCP as well. The grab feature lets you grab intervals of frames (the default is "grab every 1 frame", which means all frames). If your video is 24 frames per second, and you want a pic every 30 seconds, just punch the value 720 and you're set.

EDIT : after reading back further, I clarify that I'm referring to a CCCP playback feature, not the codec feature that works with vdubmod.

You can save the individual shots. Instead of selecting "File/save file", select "File/save multiple".

Then select the folder you want the shots in.

umm yea how do u fix this its similar to TC prob...
[!] couldn't locate decompressor for format 'yyyy' (unknown).
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to
decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media
Player, are not suitable. Only 'Direct stream copy' is available for this
video.
