Enough about that though, without further adieu, your winners for the 2006 Downloadanime.org Anime & Fansub Awards!
Just So you know: The panel choices are NOT the voice of the panel as a whole; thus the name of the person on the choice. Panel choices are NOT the real winners, and they do NOT get to feel as awesome as the real winner does, because it is simply a choice that a specific member on the panel felt should have gone more recognized. Does it really mean much? Maybe not to you. Should you listen to us? Sure, we're cool people, right? T_T
GENRE SPECIFIC
--------------------------------------------------------
Best Action Anime 2006

Black Lagoon

Runner Up: Fate/stay night (-21)
Panel Pick: Black Lagoon (OsoMarron)
Black Lagoon was simply The Action series of the season. Not only was it loaded with gunnery details and pop culture references, but it was actually a bit refreshing as it was an anime that strayed as far as it could from japanese culture aspects. Russian Mafia, Hong Kong Triad, FARC terrorists, the CIA; they totally were not shy about mixing as many winning elements as possible to create one of the most action condensed 24 episode series out there.
Best Adventure Anime 2006

Utawarerumono
|
Runner Up: Tsubasa Chronicle 2 (-2)
Panel Pick 1: Jyu-Oh-Sei (R~S)
What to say? The other animes for this category just can't be measured with the intensity that Juuousei had. And I don't mean just for the adventure part, but as the overall quality of the anime... It's really a shame it had only 11 eps. Seeing how few voted for Juuousei, if you ever don't know what to watch or feel like watching something that is not like the rest, please give it a try.
Panel Pick 2: Utawarerumono (Surkow)
Considering that this anime is based on a bishojou/hentai game the quality of this anime is a lot higher than I expected. The story begins slowly and develops rapidly. This should be on your to watch list if you like big fantasy worlds, cat/doggirls, big white tigers, science fiction, killing and lots of fighting.
Best Comedy Anime 2006

Ouran High School Host Club

Runner Up: Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (-P)
Panel Pick: Ouran High School Host Club (Soul)
The competition was fierce for comedy. There are so many different types of humour in anime, and just getting the finalists was an attempt to cover the best of all the bases. There was no doubt in my mind, and as this was the only category where Haruhi didn’t win, I’m proud to have voted for Ouran. Haruhi may have had hilarious momments, but in the end it was the other Haruhi character who gave me the best laughs, where Haruhi the anime wasn’t all about the jokes. School Rumble 2 was also golden, but honestly, I think it pales in comparison to the original series.
Best Drama Anime 2006

Honey & Clover II

Runner Up: Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl (-16)
Panel Pick: Honey & Clover II (Hawks)
No contest here. Everyone knows H&C 1 and 2 top the list if my favorite anime, and the second season was everything a second season should be. It took everything that made the first season great and built on it, leaving me T_T at the end. Each piece of brad had a four-leaf-clover! EVERY PIECE!
Best Ecchi Anime 2006

Magical Pokan
|
Runner Up: Amaenaideyo 2 (-4)
Panel Pick: Amaenaideyo 2 (Oso)
Amaenaideyo was the perfect definition of ecchi and fanservice for the season. Blatant but not untasteful, simple story, yet it made you look forward to the next episode (either for the laughs or next share of ecchiness and fanservice, or both). My pick over Magical Pokan, which I also enjoyed, but way more ecchi.
Best Fantasy Anime 2006

Shakugan no Shana
|
Runner Up: Mushishi (-9)
Panel Pick: Mushishi (Hawks)
Mushishi is easily one of the best title’s of 2006, and also one of the most underappreciated. While it’s viewer rating may have been low, the wins were high. When I look for a fantasy title, it’s more than just swords. Mushishi was pure home brewed imagination. While the other nominees may have been greatly fantastical, it was Musashi that really pulled me into another world.
Best Horror Anime 2006

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni

Runner Up: Jigoku Shoujo (-6)
Panel Pick: Higurashi No Naku Kori Ni (Escobar)
Hands down creepy. What can I say? Living in New York, I face scary deals everyday. Dark figures in every alley. But Higurashi creeped me out. Everything is nice, beautiful, nobody knows why that girl is carrying a gun, and then wham. People are dying, wtf is going on? In NY, there is no wtf.
Best Romance Anime 2006

Honey & Clover II
|
Runner Up: Rec (-13)
Panel Pick 1: Bokura ga Ita (LCeh)
My personal pick for this one was Bokura ga Ita. Let me say this first: I did not watch Honey & Clover II, so my vote might not be entirely accurate, but just as I haven't watched H&CII, I guess many of you also haven't watched BgI,so let's be hypocrites together. Bokura ga Ita has one of the best blends of comedy and romance I have seen in a while. The character development is amazing, the personalities are extremely real, and every character has their own struggles to deal with, put them together and you have one of the best romance/drama series of the year. If you haven't seen this yet, I highly recommend you to give this show at least a try.
Panel Pick 2: Canvas 2 (Loplop)
A category I find myself watching from time to time in regular anime is Romances. OK, before you start laughing, there are several good series out there. What’s funny is that I would never set and watch one that was a live action show, but I watch Romance series all of the time in anime – Go figure. My favorite last year is not going to surprise anyone, it was Canvas 2. I still can’t tell you why I became so enamored with Canvas 2, other than the fact I loved it. I think that maybe I saw some of myself in Hiroki a few years ago. I really like stories like Canvas 2 from time to time. I know a lot people became very upset with how the series ended, but it didn’t come to me as a big surprise. In fact, I rather relished the outcome of the ending of the show. If it had ended in any other way, I would have been very disappointed. It had no giant Mechs, no Magical Girls that could change everything at the uttering of a word, no Superhuman Heroes; it was just normal things happening to normal people in the present day. I really like slice of life animes such as Canvas 2. The only other series that has ever completely hooked me after just one episode, like Canvas 2 did, was in 2002 with Onegai Teacher. That’s why Canvas 2 is in my top 5 animes of all time.
Best Sci-Fi Anime 2006

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society
|
Runner Up: Ergo Proxy (-6)
Panel Pick: Pale Cocoon (Escobar)
Science-Fiction... well, Ghost in the Shell has been winning hard since forever, and all the other series involved were rather awesome in terms of science and fiction (they were all fiction right?). However, that little OVA that Loe recommended got my vote. It passed by the public eye I think ,but it was a beautiful anime about a world lost, and I totally fall for destroyed earth stuff.
Best Historical Anime 2006
Ayakashi - Japanese Classic Horror
|
Runner Up: Saiunkoku Monogatari; Le Chevalier D'Eon (-P)
Panel Pick: Saiunkoku Monogatari (R~S)
I sometimes feel I'm the only one watching this anime. C'mon, it's a 39 ep anime! And with a S2 in production! That should be a hint of sorts. I started watching this for a silly reason: the lead character, Shuurei, bears a resemblance with Kaname Chidori as her for her personality. It was after the first eps that I discovered that every character was rather unique. Plus, a shoujo+comedy+historical+romance (not the strong point) anime isn't something you see everyday. I'm beginning to repeat myself, but, please give it a try.
Best Martial Arts Anime 2006
The King of Fighters: Another Day

Runner Up: Fighting Beauty Wulong (-7)
Panel Pick: The King of Fighters: Another Day (Soul)
Now, martial arts is something I take very seriously, and every anime that claims that it belongs to that genre I will watch, and I will tear it apart. This was a bad year for martial arts. Himawari was hardly subbed, and was hardly about ninjas, let alone showing it. Fighting Beauty Wulong was good, but there is an ecchi side to martial arts anime that can easily go overboard, and without the right balance can ruin the focus. The fighting was ok, but when it comes down to martial arts, it was King of Fighters that takes the cake. Nothing to get in the way, beautifully animated moves coming straight from a game that is all about laying it down. It may have been short, but it was sweet.
Best Mecha Anime 2006
Zegapain
|
Runner Up: Tank S.W.A.T. 01 (-6)
Panel Pick: Negadon (Hawks)
Yeah, we totally failed at this category. I actually watched Negadon though, it was badass. I’m gar for Negadon.
Best Shoujo Anime 2006
Ouran High School Host Club
|
Runner Up: Honey & Clover II (-2)
Panel Pick: Nana (Escobar)
I think Nana is the clear winner for this category. No other anime in that list of nominees even comes CLOSE. To me, 'Nana' is a show that should be synonymous with 'Shoujo'. The only other show I would say was decent competition in this category would be H&C, of course. Nana, however, prevailed in the Shoujo category where H&C did not.
Best Shounen Anime 2006
Air Gear
|
Runner Up: Tsubasa Chronicle 2 (-1)
Panel Pick: Rescue Wings (Soul)
Boys will be boys eh? I really felt that Rescue Wings is one of the better series to come out in our 2006 season, and it really struck me in my boy side just as much as my mature side (yes, I have a mature side..). A good Shounen anime has to break the gap there I think, and helicopters and being a hero, being a man and the transition phase.... Rescuse Wings covered it all, and left a deep impression while at it.
Best Sports Anime 2006
Touhai Densetsu Akagi

Runner Up: Ginban Kaleidoscope (-P)
Panel Pick: Akagi (Soul)
I felt so sad when I voted here, but I knew right away which one to click on, even if it meant another had to fall. Mahjong may be a little unsporty in terms of athletics, but the depth that they went into the game, and into the players characters while on and off the field... I mean in the room was so intense. Akagi is possibly the most underappreciated anime on the list, and while Capeta was a great show about go-carting and racing, it cant hold a flame against Akagi. Also honestly, Ginban Kaleidoscope was a joke.
Best Longass Series
Bleach
|
Runner Up: Keroro Gunsou (-10)
Panel Pick: Yakitate Japan (Soul)
Yakitate Japan might not be as long as the other competitors in this category, but it was long, and it was win. Win after win after win. Back when Flounder -my hommie my hero- was about it was the number one anime in DA with his gif ripping. I may love Keroro Gunsou, and Bleach may be pretty cool, Naruto quite... famous, Yakitate is an anime I not only loved, but I was able to see it through to the end, unlike Bleach and Keroro Gunsou which I just couldn’t keep up with.
Best Eroge 2006
Cleavage

Runner Up: Classmate no Okaa-san (-2)
Panel Pick: Cleavage (Loplop)
As far as Eroge games go, two really stood out last year of the thousands that were released. Cleavage which was produced by D3, the same company that did Bible Black and Discipline, was probably the best drawn game that became available on the market as far as full-blown eroges go. Seishoujyo, the artist who did all of the drawings for the game masters, has an excellent grasp of the female form. In fact, I liked the game enough to even order the Art Book from the game from Japan, because it’s not available here. Of course, with a title like Cleavage, you know is going to play to certain fetishes that some people have (Who could I be talking about here, Heh) If the rumors are true, it has been licensed by Kitty Media and will be released in the US later in the year after Discipline is released in the US market. The other game that really stood out was Tsuma to Mama to Boin by G?J. It’s another romp through oppai-land that I found rather to my tastes. G?J has really made a niche for themselves with these types of games, and this one did not disappoint. Now if some one would just license them for US distribution that would really be great.
Best Hentai Anime 2006
Hitozuma Kasumi-san

Runner Up: Cleavage; Sora no Iru, Mizu no Iro (-3)
Panel Pick: Hitozuma Kasumi-san (Loplop)
As the probably the most noted fan of Hentai & Eroge on the boards here at Download Anime, It’s time to say a few words about last years Hentai & Eroge titles. 2006 was a pretty good year for releases of H-Anime. From counts I ran across on a couple of websites, no fewer than 750 h-anime titles were released in Japan last year. Also, there were about 100 released by licensees in the US last year. With all that, the title that I enjoyed the most (from what I saw) was Hitozuma Kasumi-san (aka Hills Have Size or HKS). It's well known that I am a big fan of women with large chests and I’ve never beat around the bush about it. HKS delivered that in spades and pretty good story to go along with it. Infidelity has long been a staple of H-anime (and regular porn for that matter), but what sets HKS apart was excellent animation and a believable story. Another plus it almost set a record for a U.S. R1 release after the original Japanese release in January and March of last year. I wish that happened more often. (Milky are you listening!) Probably best of all, It’s the kind of title that you could set down and watch with a significant other and not have the un-initiated freak out about what is happening on the screen. I recommend it highly to people who have never watched an H-anime and to couples wanting to explore the genre.
Most Moe Anime 2006
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu
|
Runner Up: Rozen Maiden (-5)
Panel Pick: Rozen Maiden (Hawks)
Dolls. Goth loli dolls. Evil tsundere dolls. Blond loli dolls. Moe sentence enders. Heterochroma inflicted twin dolls. Desu spamming dolls. Is there anything possibly more moe kashira~? I doubt it nano~. Rozen Maiden ftw desu~

BEST OVERALL

Best Anime Series Overall 2006

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu

Runner Up: Black Lagoon (-14)
Panel Pick: Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (Escobar)
Ah, Bestest Series Overall. There was a decent amount of haet for this choice back in our big-chair panel area, but in the end my choice for this had to be Haruhi. There were some anime that a good amount of the panel considered better, and some that no one on the panel thought deserved to be there (hey, you guys were the nominators). In the end, though, it had to be Haruhi right? What more can be said about this show that hasn't already been said. From the first episode I knew this was a series I HAD to watch, and from there on I only liked it more and more. Kyon's sarcastic commentary pretty much makes the series into the great phenomenon that it is today, coupled with Haruhi's crazy antics, Yuki's moe roboticness and Mikuru's helplessness. I think that other guy did something, too. It's no mistake that the show is as popular as it is (contrary to the beliefs of nearby Bears), and damnit, I LIKE the random order. Now, shum season 2 plz? T_T
Best Movie 2006

Brave Story
|
Runner Up: Gin`iro no Kami no Agito (-1)
Panel Pick: Gin`iro no Kami no Agito (Soul)
Now anime movies are usually missed out on. Most groups only sub series, and it's hard to become a fan of something you've only seen once. The most money tends to go into movies however, and it's the most work that goes into them, which shows in the high quality of everything they usually give back to us. The best story, the best animation, the best voice actors... you can usually find them in a movie. Gin'iro no Kami no Agito really excelled in this area. It was everything a children's movie should be, and it kept me focussed from one disgustingly well animated intro to a noddingly wise ending.
Best OVA 2006
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society

Runner Up: Pale Cocoon (-10)
Panel Pick: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society (R~S)
Pale Cocoon could have been a strong opponent to SSS if it were longer. But since 25 min of high quality against an hour and a half of high quality put Pale Cocoon at a disadvantage. The latest production in the GitS series, set 2 years after the end of the SAC TV series. Saying the series name should be enough as for why this Ova should be watched. It's Ghost in the Shell!!!
Best Fail 2006
Black Cat

Real Winner: Unruled (+10)
Panel Pick: Black Cat (Unruled)
I pwn because hollywood stars wear the same watches as me, and I work out a lot T_T, and blackcat is just kinda ghey.
CHARACTER AWARDS
--------------------------------------------------------
Best Leading Male

Kyon
(Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu)
|
Runner Up: Harima Kenji [School Rumble 2] (-8)
Panel Pick: Akagi [Touhai Densetsu Akagi] (Soul)
I don't mean to come off as a faboy here, but I will keep rubbing it in. Akagi is an amazing anime, and so much of this came from the depth of his character and his opponents. While Takemoto really spoke me, and Kyon was just perfect timing with his thoughts, Akagi was deep. It took me a while to say no to Takemoto, but in the end I knew I made the right choice. His mind was deep, seemingly dark and twisted, yet oddly standing up for what was right when injustice was present. Akagi fought the dark underworld with it's own medicine, and anyone who can throw away pints of his own blood and win a game of though, can stare down a blind man and drive a car off a cliff without blinking an eye...
Best Leading Female

Suzumiya Haruhi
(Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu)

Runner Up: Revy [Black Lagoon] (-8)
Panel Pick: Suzumiya Haruhi [Suzumiya Haruhi] (Escobar)
Haruhi again T_T. This was a pretty tough category. Revy is bad ass, Arika is loev, Motoko is...Motoko...and there are a few on the panel who believe Fujioka Haruhi > Suzumiya Haruhi. My vote, however, goes to Suzumiya. Sure, she was a bitch throughout the series, and took the tsun in tsundere to another level, but I still loev her T_T. She had great moments like the daily hairstyles, her awesome introduction, her daily Mikuru raping, and she was awesomely blunt to boot. Plus, being the lead female in the anime of the year has to count for something, right? If for no other reason, then she wins because she is God and she wants it to be so T_T. Ugh. I must be the panel's resident Harutard >_>.
Best Villain

Diva
(Blood+)
|
Runner Up: Suigintou [Rozen Maiden] (-P)
Panel Pick: Washizu Iwao [Touhai Densetsu Akagi] (Soul)
Sorry, but again going with the Akagi line. We had trouble comming up with a good list of villains, but the first one I put was Washizu Iwao, and he's the only one on that list who is truly a villain in my eyes. A man who can control the government and plays deadly games of blood-draining Mahjong against people with no chance of winning while ruling the underworld with his vast fortune and white-suited peons just took it hands down. Plus he had an evil laugh.
-Hawks Addendum- I may have voted for Suigintou who my love for is like a truck, but when my mind is cleaned of the haze of moe that eminates from her, I remember how incredibly bad ass Washizu was. There are very few villains that can be so sadistic and evil, while still coming off as being believable. Most anime villains have some kind of generic sad past, which set them on a common path for clichéd evil. Washizu was real. He had real motivation, real feelings, real fears, and very real character devlopment. Washizu hands down was the best villain on the list. Plus he had an evil laugh.
Best Supporting Male
Morita Shinobu
(Honey & Clover II)

Runner Up: Archer [Fate/stay night] (-6)
Panel Pick: Morita Shinobu [Honey & Clover II] (Soul)
One of the hardest decisions of my life right there. Archer was an easy off, but Morita is possibly the most memorable supporter ever. Takeuchi was a borderline lead forced to choose between love of a girl and love of a friend. Togusa if my favorite character from the GitS SAS line as being a flesh and blood man in a mechanical world amongst mechanical counterparts and still holding his own. And Yamazaki... lol. He's Yamazaki. In the end, it was Morita who took the vote though, and I am still wondering if I made the right choice.
Best Supporting Female
Yuki Nagato
(Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu)

Runner Up: Sawachika Eri [School Rumble 2] (-13)
Panel Pick: Yuki Nagato [Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu] (LCeh)
Hi, my name is LCeh, and guess who I picked for this one... ready? Nagato Yuki. The reason why Yuki has always caught my eyes was her personality, or lack thereof for those that prefer it that way. To put it simply, she is basically an ultra "tsundere". We use the term tsundere to describe people that have a cold appearance, and very rarily do they show their affections towards others. In Yuki's case, she is the utlimate personification of Tsundere. But what makes her so chariming is when she does show some of her emotions, the way she acts when she has something she wants to protect, it just makes the show so much more fun to watch.
Best Hero
Hiraga Saito
(Zero no Tsukaima)

Runner Up: Emiya Shirou [Fate/stay night] (-3)
Panel Pick: Hiraga Saito [Zero no Tsukaima] (Escobar)
It had to be Saito for this one. Saito took his whippings like a man, slept on the floor and ate off of a doggie plate, all while making at least four girls swoon, including, but not limited to, approximately one (1) maid. Besides, anyone with enough balls to kiss a princess who doesn't even know him DESERVES this award. Which brings me to my point, not only was he heroic in saving the day and what not, but he was manly...and really, isn't that the backbone of 'heroic'? Speaking of bone, Archer may be the bone of his sword, but Shirou was just a pansy. Though quotes like "People die if they are killed!" did net him some points. As for Thor...well, soul thought he looked mighty fine in them shorts, but that's about it T_T.
Best Anti-Hero
Revy
(Black Lagoon)
|
Runner Up: Enma Ai [Jigoku Shoujo] (-8)
Panel Pick: Akagi [Touhai Densetsu Akagi] (Hawks)
The line between Hero and Anti-Hero is a thin one, but some characters stand easily on one side or the other. Without a doubt, it is Akagi who makes the ideal anti-hero. Revy may have had the violent side down pat, but her character was strongly lacking otherwise. Kyon may have gotten the job done while avoiding the truth of it within himself and without, but I never got to kiss a princess to it's out of spite. Tamaki may be an anti-hero with his lol-charm, but there wasnt really a journey. Akagi however, saved his friend's paycheck, but did it while draining the bank accounts of his coworkers, and that is just the tiniest aspect of his incredibly deep character that came out in his demonic quest.
Sexiest Character With Boobs
Asahina Mikuru
(Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu)
|
Runner Up: Diva [Blood+] (-9)
Panel Pick: Diva [Blood+] (Escobar)
Argh! C'mon guys, Mikuru!? I used a picture of grown Mikuru to try to redeem this one, but the fact that she only showed up one episode says enough. When I see Mikuru I do not think sexy. Moe sure, cute, why not, but sexy?! Nowai. I was probably the only one who pushed for Diva to be in the category (most people avoided this category in nominations), but apparently not the only one who loevs Diva. Second place isn't that bad, right? Either way, Diva is way sexier than Mikuru. I'd tell you why but the sexy cannot be described, it can only be seen. Maybe it's the whole vampire thing...For the record, Diva is only sexy when she is 'herself'. Don't go getting any shota ideas T_T.
Sexiest Character Without Boobs
Suou Tamaki
(Ouran High School Host Club)
|
Runner Up: Thor [Jyu-Oh-Sei] (-2)
Panel Pick: All of them [N/A] (Soul)
Being the gayest of the panel members (while not being gay. Honest) not only did I have to come up with a list (I hope you liked it voters who like boys) but I have to say who I voted for as well and why... I think it was Mori, since I like the strong and silent type, but the doctor from Gakuen Heaven was so... and Thor. Wow, those shorts, that hair that face... Yano was kinda bland though. Cute when he smiled but he was such a prick sometimes.
Best Mascot
Asahina Mikuru
(Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu)

Runner Up: Mokona [xxxHOLiC/Tsubasa Chronicle 2] (-11)
Panel Pick: Asahina Mikuru [Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu] (Soul)
Now, originally we put Asahina Mikuru in as a joke. It was supposed to be a list of cute little extra characters that had little other purpose to the show than being cute little extra characters, sometimes being wise and sometimes squeaking little noises that made you
TEH SPECIFICS

Best Original Soundtrack

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society
|
Runner Up: Fate/stay night (-P)
Panel Pick: Fate/stay night (OsoMarron)
This being one of the only 3 OSTs in my collection I can enjoy in it's entirety, Fate/Stay Night OST was a well deserved-winner. The 40 track pack bring consistency and uniqueness at the same time, and is a must-have for anyone who has appreciated this series for it's music. Composed by Kawai Kenji, who worked on productions like Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell 2, and Death Note.
Best Opening & Ending Sequence

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu
(Bouken desho, desho?/Hare Hare Yukai)
|
Runner Up: Black Lagoon [Red Faction/Don't Look Behind] (-15)
Panel Pick: Paradise Kiss [Lonely in Gorgeous/Do You Want To] (R~S)
Tommy Feburary6 with "Lonely In Gorgeous" for the OP and Franz Ferdinand with "Do you want to" plus the animation, of course. It was a difficult choice, since xxxHolic was a strong adversary. The couple animation+song produced an excellent result for Paradise Kiss, for both OP and ED.
Most Unique Animation

Noein
|
Runner Up: Kemonozume (-1)
Panel Pick: GUN-doh Musashi (Hawks)
Now Musashi is a joke, lets get that straight. Kemonozume was pretty darn unique, but Musashi was just so bad, and so jokes... I couldn't help myself. Nice to see I wasn't the only one
Best Animation

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu
|
Runner Up: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society (-11)
Panel Pick: Pale Cocoon (Soul)
Yes, Haruhi was well animated, and the ED is burned with love into all our brains, but here;s the truth. It was good... for a series. OVAs and movies are just superior if they want to be, and that's why Haruhi didn't get my vote. Pale Cocoon's beautifully designed and then animated electronics and landscapes (can you call a massive staircase a landscape?) Just took my breath away. Still, I would also like to point out why the other animes were nominated. Gin'iro no Kami no Agito had massive tree dragons coming from the moon in a way that makes you freak the hell out, followed by details and seamless action in a fight between nature and technology (a battle that has been debated since Chaucer with Art and Nature). King of Fighters.. Take a look. It's incredibly hard to have smooth fight scenes where you can see al the moves, along with massive fires and burning buildings. And GitS has such massive cities and detailed mechanics. In the end though, I felt it was Pale Cocoon that made the most of it, but it was a hard choice.

FINALLY: NEXT YEAR?

Most Promising

Death Note

Runner Up: Code Geass (-4)
Panel Pick: Death Note (Escobar)
The first thing that came to mind when I thought of this category was nothing but Death Note. I know, with all my Code Geass sigs/avs and all my "C.C. Loev Pizza" you'd never guess, but as of right now, Death Note is easily the best show this year. It seems like every episode is better then the last, and Light is one of my favorite characters of all time, as is L. Seriously, the premise is genius. Just watching the show prompts all sorts of "Good vs Evil" discussions, and the many moments where Light struggles to get his way (or end up caught and given the death penalty) are some of the most tense moments evar. If the last few episodes of Death Note that are left are as good as what was before it, then this series will be an easy vote for me next year. Maybe even easier than it was this year ;D.
And that, my friends, is the end of that T_T. See you next year for some more fun. Promise it won't take as long T___T. Please nominate with more passion next time

Not sure what else to add. This has been quite a long journey, for one reason or another, but I am just glad that at the end, the results are out and everyone can just enjoy and recall some of the memories we have from watching anime throughout last year. Thanks to everyone who made this possible, and I feel that even though it took a while for us to get the results out, this whole event ended up on a very nice note with the comments and pictures and decorations and everything that went into the above posts and made this look pretty awesome.
Hopefully with this experience under our belt, we can learn and improve for next year as well! (this is an annual event, afterall, right? XD)

Congratu-fucking-lation with right about the worst

Your choice for the winners as this poll is ridiculous and leads me to believe half of you mentally retarded fuckbandits have a very closed view on anime and BARELY fucking watch anything at all i mean seriously, out of the hundreds of amazing animes last year.... how many did u watch? like 10-20 at most and thats probably between you as a whole, not individually.
This part alone justifys my post here as a whole and disgusts me beyond words... i was truly sickened when i saw this.....

this alone leads me to believe that every... every single person who voted on this is retarded in such a way that words cannot begin to comprehend such a choice.
My find words here are
EVERY LAST PERSON WHO WAS A PART OF THIS POLL SHOULD GO SLIT YOUR WRISTS, only then may you even be able to repent for your sins here today

And your comment about me being a rich bastard, i am nothing of the sort, i just happen to live in a country that provides more than decent services in Cable/ADSL it's hardly my thought, i am just expressing my opinion on the matter, harsh may it be but its still a valid opinion

Now I didn't get a chance to read the deleted posts, but I see what you are trying to saw with this one. I think you have the wrong impression. This isn't the oscars of anime. First your 'limited knowledge' comment. That could mean you either think we are stupid, or that we are unable to expose ourselves to the entire repetoire of fansubbed anime available. For your sake I will assume it is that latter, and thus I will refute it.
This is not the Oscars of Fansubbed anime. If you really take it for what it is, even though I hate to say it this way, it's a popularity contest. The members of the Panel did not simply combine our extensive knowlege and powers to skip the voting process and simply provide who we thought were the best while at the same time saving the world from an invasion of alien shapeshifters (which we did anyway. Thank us later). We made this a public voting process so that everyone could be involved. Sure, that may be while Haruhi won by so many landslides, but it also made the awards belong to the community and not to the fucmnack elite. In order to prevent it from being too narrow we added the "Panel Member's Pick" and their words so that there could be eyes opened.
As for fansubbers, that section was rather brain-wracking. This could easilly have offended some groups, and it is a fact that most viewers are totally ignorant of the fansubbing process and just leech greedily. It wa incredibly difficult to come up with a list of nominees since many of my favorite groups (I really want to name names, but IceAlchemist would think I'm sucking up) are slower or less mainstream. We had to cater to the masses, and I don't think you understand what's involved in that. We wanted to have an awards, so we did. It was our first, and we have learned alot from it to make it better next year. If you have advice that won't get deleted by the mods, I am more than willing to take it into consideration. Flaming on the other hand, just makes me group you in with Mikado.

I reported their posts.. so hopefully a mod or admin will wake up soon and see it.
and your on 56K? :pet: I thought you just had a bad broadband connection
Yeah not exactly 56k, its (low bandwidth broadband) but average 12KBps divide by three PC = 4KBps which equals to dial-up and its often up and down a lot :dead:

I'd personally like to thank God, my wife, my mom, your mom and Takahashi-Keisuke's Hampsters. Very special thanks goes to Vincent who whipped me more last year than the poor whip could handle. This year, he's using an electric collar... ZZZzzaP!
If I could, I would throw a couple of awards to Anime-Kraze. They're not the fastest group around but their work is always fantastic. Oh well, next year I'll try to notice the nominations thread in time to cast votes myself
The anime awards have so many good shows listed and seeing that Noein got awarded makes me extremely happy. I think it's one of the best shows that I have ever seen and it's a shame that it wasn't popular. After all these awards, I think I should finally watch Akagi. Planned to do so for a long time now but somehow I've always picked up something else. Now I have no more excuses to not watch it >_<
