It still doesn't display softfubs right, so I will only use it for emergencies and as a portable player for my USB stick
For anyone that didn't know there is a portable version

Yes it does... :king:
Show me a picture of it properly displaying .ass or .ssa soft subs...I tried watching zw's HD version of .hack//Roots and the subs both .ass and .srt were displayed as plain white and even at that at bad quality.
This is how the're suppost to look. I couldn't take a picture with VLC because the subs kept dissapearing

EDIT: I was able to make a screenshot

Hehe, so did you just negate your own post with the edit? Anyways, I never said VLC's ability to play softsubs was "good" just that it can play them. I tinkered around with the settings and you can choose different font and colors if I remember, but it still looks not so great. I prefer WMP10 w/ Kazaa Lite Codec Pack myself... but VLC is a good alternative you you don't like Microsoft stuff.

I didn't say it didn't display softsubs, I said it didn't do it right.
So we come to a consensus that VLC doesn't do a good job displaying soft subs

VLC is great for playing stuff on people's machines that are messed up (codec wise) since it has its own codecs and filters built-in. However, I don't like it nearly as much as other players like MPC. It also can't play every format (like WMV, QT, etc.).

yeah if you have a mac then that is your best bet...
for windows users, i would strongly suggest getting CCCP... I am sure you have heard it before and it comes with two great players (MPC and Zoom)...
Also I have compared many players next to each other and for me I noticed that VLC seems to 'wash' the colors out. MPC definitely had the sharpest and brightest colors although that may not be what you want...
I was reluctant at first to try CCCP but I will admit that I haven't even thought about 'codecs' or file formats since because it plays everything...
(p.s. I still have VLC just in case :heh: )
